Levacetam Injection contains Levetiracetam 100 mg/mL. Each 5 mL vial contains 500 mg of Levetiracetam. It is a sterile injectable antiepileptic formulation intended for intravenous administration when oral therapy is temporarily not feasible.

Levacetam Injection provides rapid intravenous antiepileptic therapy for patients who are unable to receive oral medication. It is effective as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures, myoclonic seizures, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures. The formulation has a unique mechanism of action through binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), offering effective seizure control with minimal clinically significant drug interactions.

Levacetam Injection is indicated as adjunctive therapy in adults aged 16 years and older when oral administration is temporarily not feasible for the treatment of partial-onset seizures, myoclonic seizures associated with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

Levetiracetam exerts its antiepileptic activity primarily through selective binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), a protein involved in neurotransmitter release. This interaction is believed to modulate synaptic neurotransmission, stabilize neuronal activity, and reduce abnormal neuronal firing, thereby preventing the initiation and spread of epileptic seizures.

Levacetam Injection 500 mg/5 mL should be diluted in 100 mL of a compatible intravenous diluent before administration. Treatment is initiated at a total daily dose of 1000 mg/day, administered as 500 mg twice daily. The dose may be increased by 1000 mg/day every two weeks, according to clinical response and tolerability, up to a maximum recommended dose of 3000 mg/day, or as directed by the physician.

Levacetam Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levetiracetam or any component of the formulation.
