Levacetam Tablets contain Levetiracetam 250 mg, 500 mg, 750 mg, or 1000 mg. Levetiracetam is a broad-spectrum antiepileptic agent that exerts its anticonvulsant effect through a unique mechanism involving synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A).

Levacetam Tablets provide effective seizure control as both monotherapy and adjunctive therapy in various forms of epilepsy. The unique SV2A-mediated mechanism helps reduce neuronal hyperexcitability while exhibiting minimal clinically significant drug interactions. The availability of multiple strengths allows individualized dose titration according to patient response and clinical requirements.

Levacetam Tablets are indicated as monotherapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalization in patients aged 16 years and older with newly diagnosed epilepsy. They are also indicated as adjunctive therapy for myoclonic seizures in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, and for primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.

Levetiracetam exerts its antiepileptic activity primarily through selective binding to synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A), a protein involved in neurotransmitter release. This interaction modulates synaptic neurotransmission, stabilizes neuronal activity, and reduces abnormal neuronal firing, thereby helping to prevent the initiation and propagation of epileptic seizures.

Treatment should be initiated at a total daily dose of 1000 mg, administered as 500 mg twice daily. The dosage may be increased by 1000 mg/day every two weeks, based on clinical response and tolerability, up to a maximum recommended daily dose of 3000 mg, or as directed by the physician.

Levacetam Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Levetiracetam or any component of the formulation. Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema and anaphylaxis, have been reported.
