Features / Experimentation

Broad-spectrum injectable cephalosporin antibiotic effective against susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections. Provides reliable treatment for respiratory, urinary tract and soft tissue infections.

Indications

Indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, ENT infections, skin and soft tissue infections and other susceptible bacterial infections.

Pharmacodynamics

Cefuroxime is a beta-lactam cephalosporin antibiotic that binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within the bacterial cell wall, thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. This results in weakening of the bacterial cell wall and subsequent bacterial cell lysis.

Dosage and administration

Adults: 750 mg to 1.5 g every 8 hours for 5–10 days or as directed by the physician. For IV/IM administration, reconstitute each 750 mg vial with Sterile Water for Injection before use.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or any component of the formulation.
