Composition
Each 5 ml of reconstituted dry syrup contains Clarithromycin 125 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Clariwin Syrup contains Clarithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as atypical pathogens. It is particularly effective in respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and infections caused by organisms such as Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Legionella pneumophila. The palatable syrup formulation ensures convenient administration and improved compliance in pediatric patients.
Indications
Clariwin Syrup is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderately severe infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. These include acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia including infections due to Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, and Legionella species, acute streptococcal pharyngitis, and uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections.
Pharmacodynamics
Clarithromycin exerts its antibacterial action by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. This action prevents bacterial growth and replication, resulting in effective control of susceptible infections. Clarithromycin also demonstrates activity against several atypical respiratory pathogens, making it a valuable therapeutic option in respiratory tract infections.
Dosage and administration
The recommended pediatric dosage is administered twice daily according to body weight. Children weighing 8–11 kg (approximately 1–2 years) should receive 62.5 mg (2.5 ml) twice daily. Children weighing 12–19 kg (approximately 3–6 years) should receive 125 mg (5 ml) twice daily. Children weighing 20–29 kg (approximately 7–9 years) should receive 187.5 mg (7.5 ml) twice daily. Children weighing 30–40 kg (approximately 10–12 years) should receive 250 mg (10 ml) twice daily. The duration of therapy should be determined by the physician based on the type and severity of infection.
Contraindications
Clariwin Syrup is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Clarithromycin, Erythromycin, or any other macrolide antibiotic. It is also contraindicated in patients with hypokalaemia, as this may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias associated with Clarithromycin therapy.
