Composition
Each tablet contains Cefixime 200 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Gramocef CV Tablets combine Cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a potent β-lactamase inhibitor. This combination enhances antibacterial efficacy by protecting Cefixime from degradation by β-lactamase-producing bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum of activity. Gramocef CV is effective against a broad range of susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms commonly associated with respiratory tract, urinary tract, biliary tract, and dental infections.
Indications
Gramocef CV Tablets are indicated for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, urinary tract infections, biliary tract infections, and dental infections caused by susceptible bacterial pathogens.
Pharmacodynamics
Cefixime is a semi-synthetic third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Clavulanic Acid is an irreversible β-lactamase inhibitor that acts by binding competitively to intracellular and extracellular β-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. Its high affinity for Class A β-lactamases helps prevent the degradation of Cefixime, thereby restoring and enhancing antibacterial activity against susceptible β-lactamase-producing organisms.
Dosage and administration
For children above 10 years of age and adults, the recommended dosage is one tablet twice daily. The usual duration of treatment is 7 days, although therapy may be extended up to 14 days if clinically required and as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Gramocef CV Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics, Clavulanic Acid, or any component of the formulation.
