Cefixime is a semi-synthetic, oral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that exhibits potent bactericidal activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Its antibacterial action results from inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to disruption of cell wall integrity and subsequent bacterial cell death.
