Composition
Each ointment contains Halobetasol Propionate 0.05% w/w and Salicylic Acid 3% w/w.
Features / Experimentation
Haloderm S Ointment is a combination topical therapy containing Halobetasol Propionate and Salicylic Acid for the effective management of plaque psoriasis and hyperkeratotic inflammatory skin conditions. The formulation combines the potent anti-inflammatory action of Halobetasol with the keratolytic properties of Salicylic Acid, helping remove scales, improve drug penetration, and provide rapid relief from redness, itching, and thickened plaques.
Indications
Haloderm S Ointment is indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis, particularly in patients with thick, scaly, hyperkeratotic lesions requiring both anti-inflammatory and keratolytic therapy.
Pharmacodynamics
Halobetasol Propionate is a super-high potency topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It induces the production of lipocortins, which inhibit phospholipase A₂, thereby suppressing the release of arachidonic acid and reducing the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic agent that softens and removes excessive keratin from the stratum corneum, reducing scaling and promoting desquamation. By removing thickened skin, Salicylic Acid enhances the penetration and therapeutic effectiveness of Halobetasol Propionate, leading to improved clinical outcomes in plaque psoriasis.
Dosage and administration
Apply a thin layer of Haloderm S Ointment to the affected skin twice daily and rub in gently. Treatment should generally be limited to up to two weeks, or as directed by the physician. Discontinue therapy once symptoms have significantly improved.
Contraindications
Haloderm S Ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Halobetasol Propionate, Salicylic Acid, or any other component of the formulation.
