Each gram of ointment contains Acyclovir 5% w/w.

Herparex Ointment is a topical antiviral formulation containing Acyclovir 5% for the effective treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections of the skin. It helps inhibit viral replication, reduces the duration and severity of lesions, promotes faster healing, and provides relief from symptoms such as pain, burning, and itching associated with herpes infections. Early initiation of treatment offers the greatest therapeutic benefit.

Herparex Ointment is indicated for the treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections of the skin, including initial and recurrent genital herpes, herpes labialis (cold sores), and herpes simplex keratitis, as directed by a healthcare professional.

Acyclovir is a selective antiviral agent active against Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). It is preferentially activated within virus-infected cells by the viral enzyme thymidine kinase (TK), which converts acyclovir into acyclovir monophosphate. Cellular enzymes subsequently convert it into acyclovir triphosphate, the active metabolite. Acyclovir triphosphate selectively inhibits viral DNA polymerase and becomes incorporated into viral DNA, terminating DNA chain elongation and preventing viral DNA replication. This selective mechanism limits viral multiplication while minimizing effects on normal host cells.

Apply Herparex Ointment five times daily for four days, or as directed by the physician. Treatment should ideally be initiated at the earliest sign or symptom of herpes infection.

Herparex Ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, or any component of the formulation.
