Each vial contains Colistimethate Sodium IP equivalent to 1 MIU, 2 MIU, 3 MIU, or 4.5 MIU.

It is primarily indicated for inhalational therapy in patients with cystic fibrosis suffering from chronic lung infections. Hopstin Injection is indicated for the treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis when administered by inhalation. Colistimethate Sodium is a cyclic polypeptide antibacterial agent belonging to the polymyxin class of antibiotics. It exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to the bacterial outer membrane and disrupting its structural integrity, leading to leakage of intracellular contents and bacterial cell death. It demonstrates selective activity against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria with hydrophobic outer membranes, including multidrug-resistant pathogens.

A minimum treatment duration of five days is generally recommended. In adults weighing over 60 kg, the usual dose is 1 to 2 million international units administered three times daily, with a maximum daily dose of 6 million international units. In children weighing up to 60 kg, the recommended dosage is 50,000 units/kg/day, which may be increased to a maximum of 75,000 units/kg/day. The total daily dose should be divided into three equal doses administered approximately every eight hours or as directed by the treating physician.

Hopstin Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Colistimethate Sodium, Polymyxin B, or any component of the formulation.
