Each tablet contains Azithromycin 250 mg or 500 mg.

Microbact is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated multidrug-resistant enteric fever caused by susceptible bacterial organisms. It should be used as directed by the treating physician and in accordance with local antimicrobial guidelines.

Azithromycin is the first member of the azalide subclass of macrolide antibiotics. It exerts its antibacterial action by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing peptide translocation. This action suppresses bacterial growth and leads to effective eradication of susceptible pathogens.

Azithromycin tablets should be administered as a single daily dose. In adults, children, and adolescents weighing 45 kg or more, the recommended total dose is 1500 mg, administered either as 500 mg once daily for three days or as 500 mg on the first day followed by 250 mg once daily from day two to day five. The tablets may be taken with or without food or as directed by the treating physician.

Microbact is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Azithromycin, Erythromycin, any macrolide or ketolide antibiotic, or any component of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with previous use of Azithromycin.
