Each 30 mL dry syrup contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil equivalent to 50 mg or 100 mg.

Microcef DS is a paediatric oral antibiotic formulation containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin with broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The dry syrup formulation is specially designed for infants and children, providing accurate weight-based dosing and improved palatability. Microcef DS is effective in the treatment of respiratory tract and ENT infections, offering reliable clinical efficacy with convenient twice-daily administration.

Microcef DS is indicated for the treatment of acute bronchitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, bronchopneumonia, sinusitis, recurrent chronic tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and acute otitis caused by susceptible bacterial organisms.

Cefpodoxime is a bactericidal cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It remains active against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including bacteria producing certain β-lactamases such as penicillinases and cephalosporinases, thereby providing effective antibacterial coverage.

For adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above, the recommended dosage is 100 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days, depending on the severity of infection. In infants and children aged 2 months to 12 years, the recommended dose is 5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days. The dosage should be adjusted according to body weight, clinical response, and the physician's recommendation.

Microcef DS is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime Proxetil, cephalosporin antibiotics, or any component of the formulation.
