Each vial contains Imipenem IP (sterile) equivalent to Anhydrous Imipenem 500 mg, Cilastatin Sodium IP (sterile) equivalent to Cilastatin 500 mg, and Sodium Bicarbonate IP (sterile) as a buffer.

Micromax Injection is a carbapenem antibacterial formulation combining Imipenem and Cilastatin Sodium for the treatment of severe and life-threatening bacterial infections. Imipenem provides broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, while Cilastatin inhibits renal dehydropeptidase-I, preventing the degradation of Imipenem and prolonging its therapeutic activity. The addition of Sodium Bicarbonate acts as a buffering agent to improve formulation stability. Micromax is an effective choice for the management of serious hospital-acquired and complicated bacterial infections.

Micromax Injection is indicated for the treatment of serious lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, bone and joint infections, infective endocarditis, and bacterial septicaemia caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Imipenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in bacterial cell death. Cilastatin Sodium is a specific, competitive, and reversible inhibitor of renal dehydropeptidase-I, the enzyme responsible for the metabolism and inactivation of Imipenem in the kidneys. Although Cilastatin possesses no intrinsic antibacterial activity, it enhances the efficacy of Imipenem by preventing its degradation and prolonging its therapeutic concentration.

For adults and adolescents with normal renal function (creatinine clearance greater than 70 mL/min/1.73 m²), the recommended dosage is 500 mg/500 mg every 6 hours or 1000 mg/1000 mg every 8 hours or every 6 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection. Dosage adjustments may be required in patients with renal impairment or as directed by the treating physician.

Micromax Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Imipenem, Cilastatin, carbapenem antibiotics, or any component of the formulation.
