Composition
Each vial contains Meropenem 125 mg, 500 mg, or 1 g for Injection.
Features / Experimentation
Micropenam Injection contains Meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic with potent bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many multidrug-resistant pathogens. It is indicated for the treatment of severe and complicated bacterial infections, including hospital-acquired infections, meningitis, septicaemia, and febrile neutropenia. Micropenam offers excellent tissue penetration and reliable clinical efficacy, making it an important option for serious infections requiring parenteral antibacterial therapy.
Indications
Micropenam Injection is indicated for the treatment of pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, gynaecological infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bacterial meningitis, septicaemia, and empiric treatment of presumed bacterial infections in adult patients with febrile neutropenia. In paediatric patients, it is indicated for the treatment of pneumonia, nosocomial pneumonia, urinary tract infections, gynaecological infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, and bacterial meningitis caused by susceptible organisms.
Pharmacodynamics
Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It readily penetrates the cell wall of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), particularly PBPs 2, 3, and 4 in Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and PBPs 1, 2, and 4 in Staphylococcus aureus. This inhibition disrupts cell wall formation, leading to rapid bacterial cell death and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.
Dosage and administration
For complicated skin and skin structure infections in adults, the recommended dose is 500 mg every 8 hours administered by intravenous infusion over 15 to 30 minutes. For infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a dose of 1 g every 8 hours is recommended. Intra-abdominal infections are generally treated with 1 g every 8 hours by intravenous infusion over 15 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, 1 g may be administered by intravenous bolus injection over 3 to 5 minutes where appropriate. Dosage should be reduced in patients with renal impairment or as directed by the treating physician.
Contraindications
Micropenam Injection is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Meropenem, other carbapenem antibiotics, or any component of the formulation.
