Each vial contains Piperacillin Sodium USP equivalent to Piperacillin 2 g or 4 g and Tazobactam Sodium equivalent to Tazobactam 250 mg or 500 mg.

Microtaz Injection is a combination of Piperacillin, a broad-spectrum ureidopenicillin antibiotic, and Tazobactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the antibacterial spectrum by protecting Piperacillin from enzymatic degradation. The combination provides effective coverage against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, aerobic, anaerobic, and β-lactamase-producing organisms. Microtaz is indicated for the treatment of serious and complicated bacterial infections, including respiratory tract, urinary tract, intra-abdominal, skin and soft tissue infections, septicemia, and polymicrobial infections.

Microtaz Injection is indicated for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and skin structure infections, bacterial septicemia, and polymicrobial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Piperacillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through interference with septum formation and cell wall integrity, leading to bacterial cell death. Tazobactam is a β-lactamase inhibitor with minimal intrinsic antibacterial activity but effectively inhibits many plasmid-mediated and chromosomal β-lactamases, thereby protecting Piperacillin from enzymatic degradation and extending its antibacterial spectrum against β-lactamase-producing organisms.

For adolescents, adults, and elderly patients, the usual recommended dosage is 4 g Piperacillin with 0.5 g Tazobactam administered every 8 hours. In paediatric patients aged 9 months and older with appendicitis and/or peritonitis, the recommended dosage is 100 mg Piperacillin and 12.5 mg Tazobactam per kilogram of body weight every 8 hours. For infants aged 2 to 9 months, the recommended dosage is 80 mg Piperacillin and 10 mg Tazobactam per kilogram of body weight every 8 hours. Dosage should be adjusted in patients with renal impairment or as directed by the treating physician.

Microtaz Injection is contraindicated in patients with a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions to Piperacillin, Tazobactam, other β-lactam antibiotics including cephalosporins, carbapenems, monobactams, or β-lactamase inhibitors, and to any component of the formulation.
