Each tablet contains Famciclovir 250 mg / 500 mg.

Microvir Tablets contain Famciclovir, an antiviral agent that is rapidly converted into its active metabolite, Penciclovir. It effectively inhibits herpes virus replication and is indicated for the treatment of Herpes Zoster (Shingles) in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients, helping reduce the severity and duration of infection.

Famciclovir is a prodrug of Penciclovir. After oral administration, it is rapidly converted to Penciclovir, which is phosphorylated to Penciclovir triphosphate in virus-infected cells. Penciclovir triphosphate competitively inhibits herpes viral DNA polymerase, thereby blocking viral DNA synthesis and preventing viral replication.

The recommended dosage is: Genital Herpes: 250 mg twice daily. Herpes Zoster: 500 mg every 8 hours for 7 days. Immunocompromised patients (e.g., HIV): 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Or as directed by the physician.

Microvir Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Famciclovir, Penciclovir, or any component of the formulation.
