Composition

Elemental Iron Sucrose IV Injection 100 mg/5 ml.

Features / Experimentation

Intravenous iron replacement therapy used for rapid and reliable correction of iron deficiency anemia. Helps restore iron stores and improve hemoglobin levels.

Indications

Indicated in iron deficiency anemia where rapid and reliable substitution of iron is required.

Pharmacodynamics

Biofer-S is an aqueous complex of polynuclear iron (III)-hydroxide in sucrose. After intravenous administration, iron dissociates and is transported with transferrin to target cells including erythroid precursor cells, where it is incorporated into hemoglobin during red blood cell formation.

Dosage and administration

Administered intravenously either by slow injection or infusion of 100 mg diluted in a maximum of 100 mL of 0.9% NaCl over at least 15 minutes.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose or formulation excipients and in patients with evidence of iron overload.
