Composition
Eldoper Capsules contain Loperamide Hydrochloride 2 mg. Loperamide is a peripherally acting opioid receptor agonist that reduces intestinal motility and provides effective symptomatic relief from acute and chronic diarrhoea.
Features / Experimentation
Eldoper Capsules effectively reduce the frequency of diarrhoeal stools by slowing intestinal transit and enhancing water and electrolyte absorption. The formulation provides rapid symptomatic relief, improves stool consistency, reduces urgency, and helps restore normal bowel function without significant central nervous system effects when used at recommended doses.
Indications
Eldoper Capsules are indicated for the treatment of acute diarrhoea, including diarrhoea associated with food poisoning, and chronic diarrhoea in appropriate patients.
Pharmacodynamics
Loperamide hydrochloride acts by binding to opioid receptors in the intestinal wall, thereby inhibiting the release of acetylcholine and prostaglandins. This action decreases propulsive peristalsis, prolongs intestinal transit time, and enhances the absorption of water and electrolytes from the intestine. As a result, stool frequency decreases and stool consistency improves, providing effective symptomatic control of diarrhoea.
Dosage and administration
For acute diarrhoea in adults and paediatric patients aged 13 years and older, the recommended initial dose is 4 mg (two capsules) followed by 2 mg (one capsule) after each unformed stool, not exceeding 16 mg (eight capsules) daily. Clinical improvement is generally observed within 48 hours. For chronic diarrhoea in adults, the recommended initial dose is 4 mg, followed by 2 mg after each unformed stool until diarrhoea is controlled, or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Eldoper Capsules are contraindicated in children below 2 years of age due to the risk of respiratory depression and serious cardiac adverse reactions, and in patients with known hypersensitivity to Loperamide Hydrochloride or any component of the formulation.
