Herperex Eye Ointment contains Acyclovir 3%, a topical antiviral medication formulated for the treatment of herpes simplex keratitis. It inhibits viral replication, promotes healing of corneal lesions, and helps reduce the progression of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections affecting the eye.

Herperex Eye Ointment is indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex keratitis.

Acyclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue with potent antiviral activity against Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Types I and II. After activation within infected cells to Acyclovir triphosphate, it selectively inhibits viral DNA polymerase and competes with natural nucleotides during viral DNA synthesis. Incorporation into the growing viral DNA chain results in chain termination, effectively preventing viral DNA replication while having minimal effect on normal host cellular processes. This selective mechanism helps control HSV infection and promotes healing of corneal lesions.

Apply a 1 cm ribbon of ointment into the lower conjunctival sac of the affected eye five times daily (approximately every 3 hours while awake) until the corneal lesion has healed. Continue treatment with a 1 cm ribbon three times daily for an additional 7 days, or as directed by the physician.

Herperex Eye Ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, or any component of the formulation.
