Each sustained-release tablet contains Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg or 1000 mg SR.

Melmet SR Tablets contain metformin, a biguanide antihyperglycaemic agent that improves glycaemic control without stimulating insulin secretion. The sustained-release formulation provides prolonged drug release, supports once-daily dosing, improves patient compliance, and helps reduce gastrointestinal intolerance associated with conventional metformin therapy. It effectively lowers both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels while being weight-neutral or associated with modest weight loss.

Melmet SR Tablets are indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Metformin is an antihyperglycaemic agent that improves glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose concentrations. It decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal absorption of glucose, and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity, thereby increasing glucose uptake and utilization without promoting insulin secretion.

Melmet SR Tablets should be administered once daily with the evening meal. Treatment should generally be initiated with 500 mg once daily in patients who are naïve to metformin therapy. The dosage should be individualized based on therapeutic response and tolerability without exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of 2000 mg.

Melmet SR is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis including diabetic ketoacidosis, and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to metformin hydrochloride or any component of the formulation.
