Each tablet contains Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg.

Melmet Tablets contain metformin, a biguanide antihyperglycaemic agent that effectively lowers blood glucose levels without stimulating insulin secretion. It improves insulin sensitivity, reduces hepatic glucose production, and decreases intestinal glucose absorption, thereby helping control both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. Metformin is generally weight-neutral and is considered a first-line oral therapy for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus when combined with lifestyle modifications.

Melmet Tablets are indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Metformin is an antihyperglycaemic agent that improves glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose concentrations. Unlike sulfonylureas, it does not stimulate insulin secretion. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity by increasing glucose uptake and utilization.

The usual starting dose is 500 mg twice daily with meals. Dosage may be increased in 500 mg weekly increments according to glycaemic response and tolerability. Clinically significant responses are generally not observed at doses below 1500 mg/day. The maximum recommended daily dose is 2000 mg, administered in divided doses.

Melmet Tablets are contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis including diabetic ketoacidosis, and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to metformin hydrochloride or any component of the formulation.
