Composition
Each capsule contains: Atorvastatin 10 mg / 20 mg Clopidogrel 75 mg
Features / Experimentation
Astin-CV Capsules combine Atorvastatin, a lipid-lowering statin, with Clopidogrel, an antiplatelet agent, to provide dual cardiovascular protection. The combination helps lower LDL cholesterol, stabilize atherosclerotic plaques, and reduce platelet aggregation, thereby lowering the risk of thrombotic cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Astin-CV is intended for patients with dyslipidemia associated with established atherosclerotic arterial disease.
Indications
Astin-CV Capsules are indicated for the treatment of dyslipidemia associated with atherosclerotic arterial disease in patients at risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, or peripheral vascular disease.
Pharmacodynamics
Atorvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. It reduces hepatic cholesterol production, increases hepatic LDL receptor expression, and enhances clearance of circulating LDL cholesterol, thereby reducing total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent that requires hepatic activation by cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes to form its active metabolite. This metabolite selectively and irreversibly inhibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to the P2Y12 platelet receptor, preventing activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex and inhibiting platelet aggregation throughout the lifespan of the platelet.
Dosage and administration
The recommended dose is one capsule once daily, or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Astin-CV Capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel, or any component of the formulation. They are also contraindicated in patients with active pathological bleeding, including peptic ulcer bleeding or intracranial hemorrhage.
