Each tablet contains Atorvastatin Calcium equivalent to Atorvastatin 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, or 80 mg.

Astin Tablets contain Atorvastatin, a potent HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to reduce elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Astin Tablets are used as an adjunct to diet and lifestyle modifications for comprehensive lipid management.

Astin Tablets are indicated as an adjunct to diet for reducing elevated total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia (Type IIa and Type IIb).

Atorvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, an essential precursor in cholesterol biosynthesis. Inhibition of this enzyme reduces hepatic cholesterol production, leading to upregulation of hepatic LDL receptors and enhanced clearance of circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). This results in significant reductions in LDL-C, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, with a modest increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).

The recommended starting dose is 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. Patients requiring a greater reduction in LDL-C (more than 45%) may be started on 40 mg once daily. The dosage should be individualized according to lipid levels, treatment goals, and patient response. Astin Tablets may be taken with or without food, or as directed by the physician.

Astin Tablets are contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, known hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin or any component of the formulation, and in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
