Composition
Each tablet contains: Atorvastatin 10 mg Ezetimibe 10 mg
Features / Experimentation
Avas EZ Tablets combine Atorvastatin, a potent HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, with Ezetimibe, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, to provide dual-action lipid-lowering therapy. The combination reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver while simultaneously decreasing intestinal cholesterol absorption, resulting in greater reductions in LDL cholesterol than either agent alone. Avas EZ Tablets are used as an adjunct to diet for comprehensive management of hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular risk reduction.
Indications
Avas EZ Tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to dietary and lifestyle modifications.
Pharmacodynamics
Atorvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. By inhibiting this enzyme, it reduces hepatic cholesterol production and increases LDL receptor expression, thereby enhancing the clearance of circulating LDL cholesterol. Ezetimibe selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol at the brush border of the small intestine by blocking the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) transporter. This decreases the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver, resulting in increased hepatic uptake of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. Together, the combination provides complementary mechanisms for effective lipid lowering.
Dosage and administration
The recommended dose is one tablet orally once daily, with or without food, or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Avas EZ Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin, Ezetimibe, or any component of the formulation. They are also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver function tests.
