Each extended-release tablet contains Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg or 50 mg.

Metapro XL Tablets contain Metoprolol Succinate, a cardioselective beta1-adrenergic receptor blocker formulated as an extended-release tablet for convenient once-daily dosing. By selectively blocking beta1 receptors in the heart, Metoprolol reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, cardiac output, and myocardial oxygen demand, resulting in effective blood pressure control and improved cardiac performance. The extended-release formulation provides sustained therapeutic plasma concentrations throughout the day, making it suitable for the long-term management of hypertension, chronic heart failure, and angina pectoris.

Metapro XL Tablets are indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults. They are also indicated for the management of chronic heart failure and angina pectoris as recommended by the prescribing physician.

Metoprolol Succinate is a beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic receptor blocker that lowers blood pressure through multiple mechanisms. It competitively antagonizes catecholamines at cardiac beta1 receptors, leading to a reduction in heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. In addition, it suppresses renin release from the kidneys, thereby reducing activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, and exerts a central effect by decreasing sympathetic outflow. These combined actions contribute to sustained blood pressure reduction and decreased myocardial oxygen demand.

The dosage should be individualized according to the patient's clinical condition and therapeutic response. For heart failure, the recommended starting dose is 25 mg once daily in patients with NYHA Class II heart failure, with the dose doubled every two weeks as tolerated up to a maximum of 200 mg daily. For hypertension, the usual initial dose is 25–100 mg once daily, with dose adjustments made at weekly or longer intervals until optimal blood pressure control is achieved. For angina pectoris, the usual initial dose is 100 mg once daily, which may be gradually increased at weekly intervals according to clinical response and patient tolerance. Daily doses exceeding 400 mg have not been evaluated.

Metapro XL Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Metoprolol or any component of the formulation, severe bradycardia, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, cardiogenic shock, decompensated cardiac failure, and sick sinus syndrome unless a permanent pacemaker is in place.
