Composition
Each sustained-release tablet contains Isosorbide-5-Mononitrate 30 mg / 60 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Sustained-release nitrate formulation designed for prophylactic management of angina pectoris and coronary heart disease. Provides prolonged vasodilatory action to reduce myocardial oxygen demand and improve cardiac workload tolerance.
Indications
Indicated for prophylaxis of angina pectoris, coronary heart disease post-myocardial infarction, and therapy of pulmonary hypertension.
Pharmacodynamics
Isosorbide-5-mononitrate relaxes vascular smooth muscle resulting in dilation of peripheral veins and arteries. Venodilation reduces venous return and myocardial oxygen demand, while arterial dilation improves coronary blood flow and decreases cardiac workload.
Dosage and administration
Recommended starting dose is 30 mg once daily (either as one 30 mg tablet or half of a 60 mg tablet) or 60 mg once daily, or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity or idiosyncratic reactions to nitrates or nitrites. Contraindicated with concomitant use of phosphodiesterase inhibitors due to risk of severe hypotension.
