Composition
Each capsule contains Amoxicillin 250 mg or 500 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Pulmoxyl Capsules contain Amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. It exhibits rapid bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it effective against infections of the respiratory tract, ear, nose, throat, genitourinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. It is also used in combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori associated with duodenal ulcer disease.
Indications
Pulmoxyl Capsules are indicated for the treatment of infections of the ear, nose, and throat, lower respiratory tract infections, genitourinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and in combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori associated with duodenal ulcer disease caused by susceptible bacterial strains.
Pharmacodynamics
Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibacterial agent with bactericidal activity against susceptible bacteria during the phase of active cell multiplication. It exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall biosynthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to disruption of peptidoglycan synthesis, weakening of the bacterial cell wall, and eventual bacterial cell lysis and death.
Dosage and administration
The usual adult dosage is 250 mg to 500 mg three times daily or 750 mg to 1 g every 12 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection. For the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, a single oral dose of 3 g is recommended. In neonates and infants aged 3 months or younger, the maximum recommended dose is 30 mg/kg/day, administered in divided doses every 12 hours, or as directed by the treating physician.
Contraindications
Pulmoxyl Capsules are contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, to Amoxicillin, other penicillins, cephalosporins, or any other β-lactam antibiotics.
