Composition
Each tablet contains Simvastatin 5 mg, 10 mg, or 20 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Simvas Tablets contain Simvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) indicated for the management of hypercholesterolemia. It effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol. Simvas Tablets help reduce the progression of atherosclerosis and lower the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) or those at high cardiovascular risk when combined with lifestyle modifications.
Indications
Simvas Tablets are indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (Type IIa and Type IIb), either alone or in association with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Pharmacodynamics
Simvastatin is a selective inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, an essential precursor in cholesterol biosynthesis. By reducing hepatic cholesterol synthesis, Simvastatin increases hepatic LDL receptor expression, enhancing the clearance of circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) from the bloodstream. At therapeutic doses, the enzyme is only partially inhibited, allowing sufficient mevalonate production for normal physiological functions while effectively lowering cholesterol levels.
Dosage and administration
The recommended dosage range is 5 mg to 80 mg once daily. For patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) or those at high risk of CHD, the usual recommended starting dose is 20–40 mg once daily in the evening, or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Simvas Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Simvastatin or any component of the formulation. They are also contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding mothers.
