Composition
Each tablet contains Azilsartan Medoxomil equivalent to Azilsartan 40 mg + Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg.
Features / Experimentation
Zilarta CT Tablets combine Azilsartan, a potent and highly selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), with Chlorthalidone, a long-acting thiazide-like diuretic, to provide effective once-daily blood pressure control. The combination offers complementary mechanisms of action by inhibiting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system while promoting sodium and water excretion, resulting in sustained antihypertensive efficacy and improved cardiovascular protection in patients with mild to moderate hypertension.
Indications
Zilarta CT Tablets are indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension.
Pharmacodynamics
Azilsartan selectively antagonizes the effects of angiotensin II by blocking its binding to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and other tissues. It has a significantly greater affinity for the AT1 receptor than the AT2 receptor, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to reduced peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a long-acting thiazide-related diuretic that acts primarily on the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption. Its diuretic action reduces extracellular fluid volume, plasma volume, cardiac output, glomerular filtration rate, and renal plasma flow, contributing to sustained blood pressure reduction.
Dosage and administration
The recommended dosage is one tablet orally once daily in the morning, or as directed by the treating physician.
Contraindications
Zilarta CT Tablets are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azilsartan, chlorthalidone, or any component of the formulation, and in patients with anuria. Concomitant use with aliskiren-containing products is contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus. Chlorthalidone should be used with caution in patients with significant renal or hepatic impairment due to the risk of worsening renal function.
